Skyline is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains just 11 km north of Cochrane, Alberta Canada. The proximity of the ranch to the Rockies provides access to some of the greatest trail riding in the world - in our own backyard!   These trail rides provide good experience and excellent conditioning for our young horses in training.  By the time our horses leave the farm they have seen just about everything.

OUR PROGRAMS

Breeding: Our breeding program focuses on the strength of our mares.  Our mares are solid, well gaited, and quiet tempered.  All have proved themselves on the trail before being bred. All carry excellent bloodlines. These mares are crossed with the stallions that we feel will emphasize the mares strengths and improve on any weaknesses.  Our reference sires are Generator's Diamond, a direct son of Pride's Generator; Skylines Dark Storm, a true black stallion carrying the blood of Roger's Perfection and Ebony Masterpiece; and Trouble's Gold Sun, a golden palomino who produces color and loads of gait.

Training: We believe that a well trained horse has confidence and respect. The foals are taught to lead and to have their feet picked up. Foot care is started at a few weeks of age and continues at least every two months from then on. Other than that, the young horses are left alone to be horses until they are two. In the fall of their two-year-old year, the more intensive ground work begins This work includes leading from both sides and from in front: leading around and over many obstacles; round pen work on free lunge and lunge line; ground (line) driving, and desensitization using a variety of "toys". Saddle work begins the following year. There is usually no resistance. Frequently within a very few days these horses are going down the trails, being exposed to trees, birds flying up, wild animals (deer and moose) fleeing our approach, cars and trucks on the road. When the weather is too bad to work outside, then and only then training continues inside an arena. Loading into and out of trailers occurs frequently. Bad manners are not tolerated. Horses should lead without stepping on or bumping into their handler. They should stand still for mounting and remain still until asked to move. They should lead or follow in a group. They should cross still and moving water without fuss. There should be no tendency to buck. They should lope (canter) readily upon request. GOOD GAIT CAN BE OBTAINED WITHOUT SPECIAL SHOEING AND WITHOUT ABUSIVE TRAINING TECHNIQUES!

NOTE: We have curtailed our breeding program. We are therefore offering some excellent mares and fillies at reasonable prices. See our Horses For Sale section for photos and details.

WE HAVE SAFELY EXPORTED HORSES TO ALL PARTS OF U.S.A , GERMANY, AND FRANCE .
